This project involved alterations and extensions to the existing heritage listed Parkville property into a student residence that accommodates male and female students of the Australian Ballet School (ABS) in a co-educational facility. The completed facility houses up to 37 students, aged between 13 to 16 years old. As a co-educational facility, the site offers open, easy to supervise mixed-gender socialising areas and common use recreation/meal areas and lounge rooms. Internal reconfiguration was focused around re-use of the many rooms to accommodate the functional requirements of the Ballet School, including self-contained staff quarters, kitchen and study areas, and select shared bedrooms. Single storey in size and with an architectural language that is modest and highly differentiated from the existing dwelling, the addition comprises shared dormitories, dining and study areas, and recreation facilities.
