The redevelopment of the Nick Scali Furniture Showroom in Nunawading involved the conversion of the existing ground floor and mezzanine floor to a single-storey retail space. The works comprised of:

  • Part demolition of the building façade, external structures, internal strip out and removal of the mezzanine floor.
  • Extension of the rear and western sections of the building.
  • Levelling of the showroom floor with a combination of waffle slab and suspended slab.
  • Upgrade of building services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing and civil.
  • The construction of fully fitted kitchenette facilities and a disabled toilet.
  • Installation of new ramped and stepped entries with an exposed aggregate finish to the main entry.
  • Installation of a new roller door to access the existing basement carpark.

The existing steel façade structure was reused and the updated façade of the building is enclosed by a combination of precast concrete panels and aluminium glazing. Architectural elements incorporated into the façade include alucobond cladding panels to the prominent corners in the North, East and West elevations of the building.

The project was successfully delivered under a strict design and construct contract.
